Introduction

A Blend of Tradition and Innovation in Bordeaux

Château Charmail is an 18th-century estate nestled in Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, Bordeaux. Led by Madame Valérie Goudet-Liquard and Medoc native Bernard d’Halluin, the estate boasts a dedicated team including historic winemaker Sébastien Pineau and Vivien Liquard, Head of Sales. Their approach combines organic farming with hands-off winemaking, aiming for a balance between tradition and experimentation.

TERROIR

Grapes Mastery

Charmail’s vineyards, mapped since medieval times, feature diverse soils matched with specific grape varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon thrives on silicate gravel, Merlot on red clay, and Cabernet Franc on clayey limestone. Petit Verdot, the estate’s “secret sauce,” adds aromatic spice and complexity, grown on hydrated alluvial soils.

VINIFICATION

Innovative Techniques

In the cellar, winemaker Sébastien employs large concrete eggs and demi-muids for maturation, emphasizing fruit expression and tannin equilibrium. The estate’s meticulous approach, including spontaneous fermentations and reduced oak influence, yields refined wines with distinct terroir expression.

WORLD-CLASS WINES

Elevating Standards

Despite challenging Bordeaux traditions, Château Charmail remains committed to crafting world-class wines while embracing innovation. Their dedication to balance and nuance exemplifies their ambition to elevate Bordeaux winemaking standards while staying true to their heritage.
