Domaine Barat

Domaine Barat is a family-owned estate in the heart of Chablis, where seven generations have cultivated the region's prestigious Kimmeridgian limestone soils to produce wines that epitomize the pure, mineral expression of traditional Chablis

History

Seven Generations of Chablis Heritage

The Barat family's connection to Chablis dates back to 1800, when their ancestors first began tending vines in this historic region. Today, the estate is guided by Ludovic Barat, who carries forward the family's winemaking traditions while incorporating modern techniques to enhance quality. The domaine's holdings, carefully accumulated over generations, now include parcels in some of Chablis' most distinguished terroirs, including the coveted Premier Cru Côte de Lechet.

The Vision

Preserving Tradition, Pursuing Excellence

Domaine Barat's philosophy centers on respecting the unique terroir of Chablis while maintaining time-honored winemaking practices. The family believes in minimal intervention, allowing their exceptional vineyard sites to speak through the wines. Their approach combines traditional knowledge passed down through generations with precise vineyard management and careful cellar work. Each decision in the vineyard and winery is made with a singular focus: to craft wines that purely express the mineral complexity and distinctive character of their Chablis terroir.

The Wines

Classic Chablis: From Village to Premier Cru

From their exceptional 2022 vintage, Domaine Barat showcases two distinctive expressions of Chablis terroir. Their village Chablis captures the appellation's essence with bright citrus aromatics, green apple, and wet stone characteristics, while their prestigious Côte de Lechet Premier Cru, sourced from southeastern-facing slopes, elevates the expression with intense white flowers, citrus zest, and crushed shell aromatics. Both wines display the hallmark mineral tension and precise structure that defines great Chablis, with the Premier Cru offering additional depth, concentration, and a more pronounced finish that reflects its superior terroir.
