Lux: Light, Brilliancy, Life “The Benedictine monks, thirsting for the Light which deifies, and the Provençal wine growers basked since their childhood in the beams of a dazzling sun, we would like to take you to the summit, to share with you the joy of the moment when the light, unveiling itself, almost blinds us and reveals the secret of a more excellent way.”

The 2018 Lux Red has a beautiful deep red color. The aroma is very intense, with a complex and elegant mixture of vanilla, licorice, and hints of spice. This is a pleasure wine full of red and black fruit that will enchant you.

Wine Story

  • Terroir

The thousand and one skills of Ars Vinitoris (the art of wine making), the unique character of the terraced vineyards in Le Barroux and Upper Beaumont, the search for the woods capable of subtly enhancing our best grapes… and above all, the love with which monks, nuns and wine growers work in harmony: this is the path which was followed to lead you to where the blinding light finally enlightens: the true Light is Charity.

  • Vineyard

Grapes for this wine are sourced from prime parcels of the Caritatis terroir, including the Annunciation Sisters' hill and the monks' old vineyard. The vineyard practices are focused on sustainability, with careful selection of Grenache, Syrah, and Marselan grapes for their aromatic and flavor profiles.

  • Vinification

Hand-harvested grapes undergo strict sorting to ensure only the best quality. Vinification takes place in concrete tanks with a 25-day maceration period without stems. The wine is extracted through délestage and light stirring. 75% of the wine is aged in concrete tanks, and 25% in oak barrels for 24 months.

Via Caritatis

A 700-year-old tradition of excellence

In 1309, in the foothills of Mont Ventoux, France, in the Southern Rhône, Pope Clement V planted the very first papal vineyard – now known as Via Caritatis. But what began then was so much more than a vineyard—it was a vision of winemaking motivated by a spirit of charity. Today, more than 700 years later, that spirit of charity characterized by mutual service, generosity, and sharing, guides our community of monks and nuns from the Benedictine Abbey of Le Barroux in their winemaking.
