Château La Fleur de Boüard

Château La Fleur de Boüard was established in 1988 when Hubert de Boüard, co-owner and longtime oenologist of Château Angélus, was captivated by the hillside terroir facing the finest Pomerol vineyards.

History

From Angélus to La Fleur

Motivated by a profound belief in the potential of Lalande-de-Pomerol terroirs to yield exceptional wines akin to the greatest Bordeaux appellations, Hubert de Boüard acquired the initial 25 hectares of this vineyard in 1998, which has since expanded to 29 hectares. After graduating from Bordeaux Faculty of Oenology, under the tutelage of Emile Peynaud, de Boüard left Saint Émilion to discover the vineyards and cellar techniques of the world, especially of Burgundy.

The Vision

Innovation at Heart

He has always balanced tradition and experimentation to craft wines of great finesse from perfectly ripe grapes. He emphasizes that what he seeks most from wine is emotion and pleasure. Since he had been at Château Angélus since 1980, La Fleur presented itself as an opportunity to bring his experience from all those years, but also to continue to experiment. Walking into La Fleur’s cellar is not unlike walking into a spaceship launchpad for Mars! Twenty-eight enormous, truncated cones made from stainless steel are not only suspended – but inverted – so that the whole process of fermentation and bottling remains a gravity feed system. There are no pump-overs. This is just one example of many, in which the spirit of experimentation comes together with the deep experience de Boüard and his team have gained at Angélus.

The Wines

Elevating Lalande-de-Pomerol to Greatness

We proudly feature La Fleur’s flagship wine, La Fleur de Boüard Lalande-de-Pomerol. Inspired by de Boüard’s latest venture, Chardonnay Vin de Pays de l’Atlantique, which has proven to be a remarkable success, we couldn’t resist. The house style is sensual but serious, with all of their wine having impeccable balance. Comparing these wines to painting, one evokes the Venetian style of the Italian Renaissance, which emphasized vibrant colors over the intricate lines of late Renaissance Mannerism. These wines represent some of Bordeaux's finest offerings, benefiting from Hubert de Boüard's extensive experience at Château Angélus, as well as the collective expertise and contributions of his entire team.
