Lalande-de-Pomerol from Bordeaux, France

La Fleur de Boüard Lalande-de-Pomerol, the estate’s premier wine since 1998, exemplifies meticulous craftsmanship. Well-balanced and juicy, the 2018 vintage offers flavors of fleshy blackberry, raspberry, and blueberry, enhanced by touches of licorice, dark chocolate, and ripe almond.

A wine which can be enjoyed already now with velvety texture, purity of juicy red and dark fruits and fine freshness. Certainly will gain complexity during at least next 10+ years.

Wine Story

  • Terroir

The Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation boasts diverse soils that significantly contribute to the character of its wines. The estate spans 29 hectares, with 18 hectares on the Néac plateau featuring clay with a gravel subsoil, and 11 hectares of large gravel mixed with 15% clay. This unique combination of soils enhances the complexity and depth of the wine, providing an excellent foundation for the blend of grape varieties grown here.

  • Vineyard

The vineyard is meticulously managed to ensure the highest quality grapes. The blend consists of 85% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. Harvested in September, the grapes are picked at optimal ripeness to capture their full flavor potential. The vineyard practices yield between 30 to 45 hectoliters per hectare, focusing on producing concentrated and expressive fruit.

  • Vinification

Vinification at Lalande-de-Pomerol is a carefully controlled process designed to enhance the wine's natural qualities. It begins with cold soaking before fermentation at 8 to 10°C to extract color and aroma compounds. Alcoholic fermentation follows, with the wine spending 3 to 5 weeks on the skins to develop structure and depth. The process is entirely gravity-fed, ensuring gentle handling of the wine. Aging occurs over 15 to 18 months in 50% new oak and 50% one-year-old barrels, without fining or filtration, to maintain purity and complexity. The result is a wine that truly reflects the terroir and meticulous care taken in its production.

La Fleur de Boüard

Elegance and Excellence

Château La Fleur de Boüard originated in 1988 when Hubert de Boüard, co-owner and long-time enologist of Château Angélus, was captivated by the terroir situated on the hillside facing the finest Pomerol vineyards. Motivated by a profound belief in the potential of Lalande-de-Pomerol terroirs to yield exceptional wines akin to the greatest Bordeaux appellations, he acquired the initial 25 hectares of this vineyard in 1998, which has since expanded to 29 hectares.
