Tasting Notes

Royal Oporto 40 Year Tawny Port

TASTING NOTES
Appearance

This 40 Year Old Tawny Port displays a mesmerizing amber color with lustrous golden-orange highlights, a testament to its extended aging. The wine's clarity is remarkable, showcasing a brilliant transparency that allows light to dance through its depths. As it's swirled in the glass, it leaves behind slow-moving, viscous legs that cling to the sides, hinting at the port's concentration and complexity.

Nose

Notes of vanilla, spices, and dry citric fruits.

Palate

Powerful, yet velvety on the palate, this port showcases a harmonious blend of flavors. The midpalate unfolds with luscious notes of spiced cherry, reminiscent of Black Forest gateau, intertwined with a creamy richness that coats the tongue. As the flavors evolve, the finish reveals bright touches of candied orange peel and a lingering caramel sweetness, balanced by a subtle warmth from the port's alcohol. The interplay between the fruit, spice, and sweetness creates a complex and enduring taste profile that exemplifies the port's quality and age.

Food Pairing

Pairs beautifully with a range of flavors, from savory to sweet. It shines alongside aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano or Manchego, and complements rich desserts such as crème brûlée, dark chocolate truffles, or fig tart. For a luxurious experience, pair it with foie gras or enjoy it as a digestif, slightly chilled, to fully appreciate its complex flavors and velvety texture.
